Pixel Art Diffusion is a dedicated checkpoint designed for creating pixel art style images. It has the capability to generate a wide variety of images in the pixel art style, allowing users to produce beautiful and creative artworks. While it may not focus on generating perfectly shaped pixels, it excels in delivering images with the distinctive pixel art style, offering advantages such as vibrant color saturation and the convenience of shorter prompts.
You have total freedom over what this checkpoint can create, use it to generate videos or game assets or even to explore a new style.
The VAE has been already baked in.
How To Use:
This checkpoint can be hard to use when generating images without knowing how to get the best images with it, here is a simple list of things to follow to generate beautiful art:
Keep the prompt simple, don't use extremely long prompts, focus on what you need
Use "Pixel Art" at the start or in the beginning part of the prompt, this way you can be sure to achive a pixel art type of image
Use words such as 16 bit, 32 and 64 bit to help the checkpoint understand the style if you are having a hard time getting pixel art
When upscaling remember to use very low Denoise Strength values, don't go above 0.25 or else the image will start to distort
It's preferrable if you don't use words that imply a style that is very different from pixel art, especially in the beginning part of the prompt, prompts such as: realistic, Photography and hyper detailed may damage the pixel art aesthetic, use those only in the last parts of a prompt (if you want to use them at all)
Keep in mind this is not a perfect pixel art image creator, images generated won't necessarily have pixel perfect squares, square may vary slightly in size
Use CFG values between 4 and 12 this way the model is more stable and can generate images better
Pay attention to the LoRAs you are using, some may completely remove the pixel art style from the image
What Are The Best Uses?
You have the freedom to create what you prefer, here are some fields where this checkpoint is best used:
Game design, generate images to use as inspiration for sprites in video games, tools, potions, armors and everything else you need for a pixelated game adventure
Profile pictures, use it to generate your very own and unique profile picture for all social media platforms

Creator Note:
Hi, I'm an Italian creator, I love AI and share what I create with others to spread the joy of using AI.
I craft checkpoints, LoRAs and prompts that anyone can use to generate their own art and share it. My ultimate aim is to be a good creator, sharing the models I create as a hobby with others and see other create ever better creations than the ones I upload.
The primary objective of this checkpoint is to excel in crafting pixel art at the highest capability achievable by SDXL.
Future updates aim to enhance the style, making it even more refined and stable. Delve into the realm of AI-generated art with a pixel art aesthetic, and share your thoughts in the comments below.
Don't forget to provide a review and share your pixelated creations for inclusion in the gallery! Unleash your creativity in the realm of 16-bit wonders and enjoy the process! 🤯P͓̽e͓̽r͓̽s͓̽o͓̽n͓̽a͓̽l͓̽ ͓̽R͓̽a͓̽t͓̽i͓̽n͓̽g͓̽:͓̽
Quality: 9.5/10
Stability (Variety): 6/10, the lower = the more variety with one prompt
Style Flexibility: 3/10
CFG resistance: 12/30
Style strength: 9/10
Image Stability: 9.5/10 (how much the image looks cohesive to the human eye)
Recommended Settings:
Image Quality: 1024x1024 (Standard for SDXL), 768x1024 (Used in the showcase) 16:9, 4:3, 6:13
Steps: 30-50
Hires Upscaler: 4x_foolhardy_Remacri or 4xUltraSharp
Hires upscale: The only limit is your GPU (I upscale 1,5 times the base image, 576x1024)
VAE: XL_VAE_C

The new version uses 20% of Pixel Art | Base checkpoint made by Husky_AI.
V2 has also been trained on more images and the pixel shape quality has been improved.
Overall detail of the generated image is better in V2.
To achieve a specific nsfw result I recommend to use a SDXL LoRA, this checkpoint can handle nsfw prompts but it is not a nsfw focused model, keep in mind that a SD 1.5 LoRA doesn't work with a SDXL models.
1) Perfect for pixel creatures, gotta generate'em all
2) Imagination is the first ingredient of AI
3) Think outside the hypercube!

Assume it does work with vanilla XL loras but not pony or animagine ones?
It's better if you use this checkpoint with other pixel art LoRAs, the main point of the checkpoint is to make good pixel art, I haven't tested it with many LoRAs so don't expect perfect quality if you use them, use pixel art at the prompt and the trigger word of the LoRA after that.
It looks like you used some of my prompts for showcase gens! I’m flattered, and they look great. Hopefully the new version gets added to the civitai generator soon. I’m excited to try it out.
❤️ those prompt were great
These look great, but what is the difference between the Sprite Shaper and Pixel World checkpoints? Is Sprite Shaper the newer model and there's no reason to use Pixel World anymore?
Sprite shaper adds more details to the image and the pixels looks more square-ish while pixel word has a bit less detail.
sorry for coming here im a total noob
can i use this model with SD1.5 ?
Or i need to have SDXL only for this model
Just pay attention to the lower right corner of the author. The author has indicated that users are not allowed to merge models. Credit is required to do so. You can solve the problem through chat~
img2img takes a bit of tweaking. If you're using it for a character you gotta have controlnet with lineart on
我在img2img中做出来的效果很差呢,请问还有什么需要注意的地方吗
This is awesome! both varieties are good in their own way.... Spriteshaper seems to look a bit more soft, pixel world has a good contrast and is very vibrant
A good tip for both is to upscale the image down to the pixel aspect you're going for (32x, 64x) and then scale it back up to it's original size
Make sure your upscale settings are set to nearest-exact/closest/sharp, this sharpens the image without adding lines between the pixels :D
These are great tips! 😸
great ideea. is there any way to control how pixelated they appear? some are too low res
The VAE has been already baked in. Please ask me whether I still need to load the recommended VAE: XL_VAE_C?
The VAE: XL_VAE_C is only needed if you have the Pixel World version, if you have the Sprite Shaper version you do not need the VAE, as it is baked into the model itself. It can still be used though.
I see the image generating but the final result is always a blank black image. Other models worek fine. What can be the reason? (Steps: 32, Sampler: DPM++ 2M Karras, CFG scale: 8, Seed: 2084968830, Size: 768x512, Model hash: 7adffa28d4, Model: pixelArtDiffusionXL_spriteShaper, Version: 1.8.0-RC) no error in log
ok, it was due to --disable-nan-check argument. Removing it did the fix
@snakesti i have kinda the same pbs where do you found the --disable-nan-check argument ?
@thibaultd3d219 edit the .bat file via notepad, it should be there
Amazing model for pixel art/sprites
First version has far more definition on the pixels in general, and the quality of images and prompt obedience is slightly better too.
Any reason why we can't use this model on civitAI anymore? I would love to give it a try but sadly my PC is too weak to run SDXL models locally.
hello, can i adjust size of pixels somehow? i noticed that first generations had smaller pixels, then next versions of the same prompts n settings started to generate bigger n noisier pixels
Hi, there is no way to change the size of the pixels in the image, if anyone would like to correct me here I would appreciate it.
Tried various pixel art checkpoints and this one is the best from what I've seen.
It's a great model, but you're lost if you think you have any commercial rights over what people generate with your model. Unless, of course, every single piece of data used to train this model was your own, right? Surely you'd never train an AI model on other people's art, AND then try to claim that people can't use your model for commercial gain without your permission? Surely.
ON TOP OF the model being based 20% on someone else's model. Surely you couldn't be flaunting arrogance or hubris that brazenly?
lmaooo i saw that shit and scrolled right by. yea aiiht buddy
Interestingly enough, it's shared under CreativeML Open RAIL++-M and that license is clear about outputs being free for commercial use. If the 'author' of the checkpoint really wants to forbid people to make commercial use of outputs, better picking another license.
For real.
I have a hard time seeing the difference between 64, 32, and 16 bit. Is it the color depth? A 16-bit computer usually has less pixels than a 64 bit -- but the amount if pixels seem to be the same between the three.
the character lora does not working on this model,is that model problem or lora
If what I saw was correct... and correct me if I'm wrong here, but that whole "Gotta have my permission in writing to use images commercially" stuff is laughable AND not enforceable. This is why -> CreativeML Open RAIL++-M
So unless this is somehow carrying a "CUSTOM" license or is licensed under something NOT CreativeML Open RAIL++-M
I'd dare say this author needs to be thankful for the crowd who enjoys this work and stop spitting nonsense. Solid pixel art generation work, but the delivery and clarity of legalities need DRASTICALLY revamped or explained better.
