My attempt at a straightforward upscaling workflow utilizing SUPIR. This workflow was created with the initial intent of restoring family photos, but it is not at all limited to that use case. Can be complemented with ComfyUI Fooocus Inpaint Workflow for correcting any minor artifacts. (None of the images showcased for this model are touched up so as to accurately display its capabilities as a standalone process.)

My current preference for checkpoint to use with this workflow is HelloWorld XL v7 and for upscaling model either 4xRealWebPhoto v4 DAT2 or 4xUltrasharp.

Based on my own usage this workflow should be able to run on 8gb of vram on the preset settings. Some additional setting considerations if you have capable hardware:

    • Experiment with disabling fp8_unet and/or enabling high vram on the SUPIR model loader.

    • In the SUPIR sampler you'll likely want to enable keep_model_loaded (especially if you don't plan to load more models downstream needing to free up vram for them).

    • You can also bypass the downscaling step (image resize node) in the upscale group.

I'd recommend using ComfyUI-Manager for installing and updating any other custom nodes used within the workflow.

soooo dumb question, if you're not upscaling... how do you load the image you was supir section to run?

do i need to add a load image node and bypass the receive image node? or am i missing something?

edit: Neeevermind. The main process muter was turning off the whole group making me think I needed to input the image else where when you should just bypass the two upscale model nodes instead to allow the image to pass-thru. :face palm:

If you are encountering errors with memory running out with a baby GPU, make sure you don't go too crazy with the LoRAs. I can at most use a single small to medium sized LoRA on a 6gb laptop gpu with 8 total if you count the shared memory. It is insanely fast and works really well all things considered. Make sure you guys go to the hugging face page for SUPIR to install the v0Q and v0F models. The general differences between the two can be found in the GITHUB page for SUPIR.

It took me a while on how to figure out how to do the mute/bypass control, and maybe what I did isn't the best way. But I found I needed to add a "Fast Groups Bypasser (rgthree)" node which automatically detects the mutes and gives you toggle options.
