The original upload of this upscaler was made here: https://openmodeldb.info/users/mutin-choler
HOW TO USE:
Download the file .pt
Copy the file
Open your stable diffusion installation folder
Paste the file in the folder: "\stable-diffusion-webui-1.7.0\models\ESRGAN"
Restart the webui
Now you can use the upscaler!

And then if you check his repo it says: The models they found here taken from the community OpenModelDB is a community driven database of AI Upscaling models.
And then you check this scaler on OpenModelDB: https://openmodeldb.info/models/4x-RealisticRescaler
where it says: by Mutin Choler
We also get some information about what the scaler is for:
This model was made to upscale realistic low-res textures that are compressed by either JPEG or BC1. From my testing, this works rather well on realistic GameCube textures such as the ones from Shrek Extra Large and the board textures from Mario Party 4. This model could also work on some real life images, especially the ones that are taken outdoors.
The dataset might also be a good hint about where this scaler is trained for: DatasetDIV2K, Flick2R, AmbientCG, Poly Haven, nomos2k
Thank you for the info, description has been updated.
If the OpenModelDB page is correct, it should also have no restrictions on any type of use as it is listed as WTFPL http://www.wtfpl.net/about/
does this work for animated, cartoon, or anime?
I plugged it in, trying to upscale Hand Maid May. Looks pretty darn good....
Had to change the file extension to .pth on my machine. Had been upscaling but no rescaler was actually being used.
Thanks, was getting an error as well, but this worked. I didn't have an ESRGAN folder yet in my models folder, so I made it when I put the file in, but got an "Unable to load ESRGAN model" error in the CMD. Changing it to pth made it work.
