Gillian Lesley Gilbert, born on January 27, 1961, in Whalley Range, Manchester, England, is an English musician best known as the keyboardist and guitarist for the band New Order. She joined the group in 1980, following the tragic death of Joy Division's lead singer, Ian Curtis, and has been a significant contributor to their distinctive sound.

Early Life and Career: Gilbert's family moved to Macclesfield during her youth. Inspired by bands like Siouxsie and the Banshees, she learned to play guitar and formed a punk band called The Inadequates. Their rehearsal space was adjacent to that of Joy Division, leading to her acquaintance with the band members. After Curtis's death, the remaining members formed New Order and invited Gilbert to join, expanding their sound with her keyboard and guitar skills.
