Sephiroth (Japanese: セフィロス, Sephirosu) is the main antagonist of Final Fantasy VII (1997) by Square Enix.

Sephiroth is the result of a scientific experiment by the Shinra Corporation: while still in the womb, he was implanted with cells from Jenova, an extraterrestrial life form. Sephiroth was originally an elite member of SOLDIER and a hero of the war against the Wutai people.

A key moment in his life is his mission to Nibelheim, where he learned the truth about his origins. This led to:

hatred of Shinra;

contempt for all life on the Planet;

a desire to become a god and take control of the Planet.

Nibelheim Incident: burns down a village, killing its inhabitants. Presumed dead after a fight with Cloud, he continues to influence events.

Cloud's manipulation: causes him to doubt his own identity and memory.

Aerith Gainsborough's murder is one of the most shocking moments in the game.

Final Battles: Acts as the penultimate boss (Bizarro Sephiroth) and final boss (Sepher Sephiroth).
