The Spectacled Bear (Tremarctos ornatus), also known as the Andean Bear, is the only bear species native to South America, mainly found in the Andes Mountains. It gets its name from the distinctive light-colored markings around its eyes, which resemble spectacles. Spectacled Bears are medium-sized, with black or dark brown fur. They are primarily herbivorous, feeding on plants, fruits, and occasionally insects or small animals. Skilled climbers, they often spend time in trees. This elusive species is classified as Vulnerable (VU) due to habitat loss and human threats.
