Mai Kawai is Dr. Kishida's niece. A university student and she serves as the chief pilot of ARIEL. She is often at the mercy of the extremely free-spirited Dr. Kishida and his team staff. She is like an older sister to Aya and Kazumi, and they affectionately call her "Myaa-chan." Initially, like Aya and the others, she was reluctant to pilot ARIEL, but she was bribed by Dr. Kishida and agreed to pilot it as part of her part-time job.
