"And now, far away, over leagues of tossing cloud-waves, I saw the moon dripping with spray; and beyond, the towers of Carcosa rose behind the moon. Death and the awful abode of lost souls, whither my weakness long ago had sent him, had changed him for every other eye but mine. And now I heard his voice, rising, swelling, thundering through the flaring light, and as I fell, the radiance increasing, increasing, poured over me in waves of flame. Then I sank into the depths, and I heard the King in Yellow whispering to my soul:
'It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God!'"
- Robert W. Chambers, In the Court of the Dragon
Hello folks,
I'm continuing my series of Lovecraftian creatures and characters with probably the second most iconic villain of the Necronomicon: Hastur. There a few other Hastur models out there (konyconi's and passer's), but it looks like we have a different training dataset and overall approach to the character. My interpretation of the King in Yellow is closer to the original Chambers story, inspired by John Scott Tynes's "Carcosa cycle," as opposed to the Call of Cthulhu /August Derleth interpretation. Still, the model is quite flexible, and you should be able to conjure the King in Yellow from your own dreams.
Notes:
Trained on Clip Skip 1. That doesn't mean it won't work on Clip Skip 2 models (it works okay), just that I'm not testing it extensively on Clip Skip 2 models.
Then model is flexible, so depending on your prompts you can go for a masked visage or one shrouded in darkness.
In general, weights of 0.8-1.0 seem good.
Tentacles are a bit inconsistent. It's tough to get the tentacle legs seen in Call of Cthulhu interpretations of the character. I have some ideas to improve on that for future versions.
By the way, have you seen the yellow sign?

Nice. Any chance of Nyarlathotep at some point? I imagine Yog-Sothoth is a big too "weird" to make a lora for.
I've been thinking about Nyarlahotep. Honestly, I loathe the Chaosium character design for him. To me, Nyarlahotep is the most intelligible and therefore most nefarious of the Lovecraftian villians: the Chaosium "wot if his head was a tentacle" design doesn't really do that justice.
I also don't think Nyarlahotep needs a character LoRA. He's got a thousand forms after all. I don't want to tie him down to a specific design.
Edit: To clarify, that doesn't mean I won't ever do it, just that it's not a priority
@machinique That is fair. You can use existing LORAs or just a base checkpoint to conjure up several of his human forms. I can see the critique of the Chaosium design. That being said, I liked Persona 2's take on the tentacle-like head. Are any of the various races on your radar? I'd love to see any of those. Any chance of related creatures from Smith, Howard, Bloch, Long, etc...?
The Deep One LoRA initial version is already out, and I'm working on LoRAs for Elder Things, Night Gaunts and the Mi-Go. There are other species with good datasets, and I will add them to my musings article if I start collecting them: https://civitai.com/articles/495/machiniques-workbench
I'd love Shub Niggurath, and Dark Young. Or other mythos monsters.
