Yes, please focus on the license issue first. If the license is too restricted, the value of current models are questionable. I suggest restart from scratch based on some "liberty" models if the license issue can not be solved. All of us learnt the importance of license in this hard way. I have the same issue, using Automatic1111. Sometimes it works, randomly, when I start Automatic1111 with another model (e.g. Protogen V2.2) then load Infinity. Very weird.

I tried to add the arguments suggested in that thread: --precision full --no-half --medvram --opt-split-attention

But I still get black images. Strangely enough:

- I can confirm that if I load the Anime model at startup, then load the Infinity model, it works;

- If I see the denoising steps images with some preview, it shows it tries to create some image, but with random stuff, completely ignoring the prompt;

- I tried also the unpruned version, but I get the same problem.

- Infinity for some reason works without any problem in InvokeAI (using vae-ft-mse-840000-ema-pruned as an autoencoder).

I have no clues :( I never had this problem with any other model.
And I'm crying a little bit because it could be my favorite, when it works.

@localtech I've been seeing a lot of the community anger about these licenses and I'm just curious where it comes from. Unless I'm misunderstanding, isn't this basically saying the model can be used as long as it's not being hosted on a website or app? And outputs can still be used commercially as long as your business is 10 employees or less? I'm trying to understand the outrage about this, for majority of users, we are either private or definitely not using it for commercial purposes in a team larger than 10, right?

Dreamlike in particular has their own website hosting their model, which they (presumably) earn money from, so I understand them not wanting someone to directly compete with that. I'm personally a huge fan of Dreamlike Diffusion, just want to understand what the outrage is about.

@lman146 because they are untrackable, unenforceable, and muddy every single merge including this model. It forces users who might not have any idea what they are doing into tracking licensing on any model they make and forces them so some how acquire and include the license for redistribution even though we don't have a system for that in place. If they want their license to have meaning then they need to manage it instead of expecting unsuspecting users to just understand all the implications of what they are downloading. this clause right here "You are not allowed to host, fine-tune, or do inference with the model or its derivatives on websites/apps/etc." means that everyone ALWAYS has to ask permission for anything that includes this license from dreamlike.art who could very easily gate keep. It also means that every single merge hosted here on civitai that use this license are probably in violation of it and if they wanted to be petty could easily attack sites like civitai.

This clause

means that even if we follow all the rules then they can arbitrarily change the rules and somehow every human who has ever used this model in a merge, legally or not, has to go back and update the license in their hosting location to reflect the changes.

This clause

means that if they dont like that you put goblin waifus in their model, or weird butt stuff, or something like a finetune of a turtle (after they already approved you to do a merge including their model) they can just rug pull you and remove their license. This one impacts the financial side too, negatively. With no method of tracking this frivolous lawsuits can be a thing where someone thinks their license is violated by a company hosting an online ai generator and can waste everyones money by legally duking it out causing the less financially well off entity to essentially win by default.

I think we could definitely use some sane licensing to protect some companies that use these tools for financial gain but the end users should not be the ones responsible for designing and cataloging and picking through that process. The people making money should invest in their licensing and a way to track it if they want to implement it not just blog post a legally binding contract in random locations around the internet. If they want their product licensed and used responsibly THEY need to do a better job, clearly. the day of release they got so much hype tthat before the licenses were even reviewed we had like 10 merges just here on civit. that's THEIR problem, not ours.

it also means that anything you make that includes these licenses could be held hostage for the license owners financial gain i.e. you can't merge our model unless we can use it on our site to generate images that make us money, also you can't make money off the model you just made.

without better logic these licenses are wide open for abuse by the license holder and I truly think that's exactly what they intend to do. They might not know it yet but we've already watched MANY companies and crews cave to censorship and twitter whining what makes you think that dreamlike wont do the same and start chasing people down?

Fair enough. I guess I hadn't dug deep enough into the license or considered those points.

With all of that said, I feel that a lot of this, especially the idea of rug-pulling after the fact, would be totally unenforceable in court, and like you said, it is almost impossible to track it down unless they are adding some kind of hidden watermark, and I'm not sure that's actually possible. The reality is that there are a whole lot of things that end up in licensing agreements and contracts that are not actually enforceable at all in most (US) jurisdictions. But I agree that it just opens the playing field for really stupid frivolous lawsuits which will just be a waste of time and money.

And from an ethical point of view, it does feel wrong. Beyond the fact that SD is open sourced, and this license kinda violates the spirit of that, I think it's needlessly complicated. Like if you want to make a private model and host it on your own website, just keep it private and spare the community from having to have this kind of conversation surrounding your model.

With all of that said, I have seen posts from the creator of the Dreamlike Diffusion model and I think his aim was to stop some big company from scooping it up, hosting it on their website, and making a bunch of money off of his work. I think someone actually tried to do so early on, which caused this whole situation (I could be misremembering). So I see that side as well. I think if they were trying to prevent the community from using DL in merges and posting on places like Civitai or Huggingface, we would already have seen it shut down pretty quick.

Ultimately, I think there are already plenty of great models that don't use DL as a base, and potentially even better models will be released, and maintain open sourced licensing. That will make Dreamlike irrelevant to this discussion, unless they do the same. We are really early in the game still, and I don't think we have seen the tip of the iceberg yet.

Don't understand any post related to licensing models. If i'd be a huge company making apps - Ok, i'll find another model

@darkstorm2150 You should check the Reddit pages of the authors. I'm pretty sure I remember one or both changed them.

Does the license physically prevent you from using the model? Does the model magically not function because some asshats have irritating licensing demands? Maybe try reviewing the model properly and including your opinion in the review instead of just telling people it doesn't work.

I'm very confused about people being upset about these licenses, like what are you being stopped from doing other than redistributing the free thing you get.

creating your own images is fine you just can’t give access to the model itself and make money on it … kind of a no brainer
