Would you recommend using this with the Anything VAE or the standard SD VAE? I'm assuming Anything just based upon the heavy Anything influence in the example images.

I would use anything's VAE. Also, I didn't think of the name lol maybe I'll change it
The influencing is because I used prompts that were crafted with anything in mind. Since it is a merged model you can use prompts from either model and they should work
To use these, do you just put the VAE file in the same directory as the ckpt? And rename it to match the ckpt?
You will want to rename the vae. Example: modelname.vae.pt
