The story is a classic romantic comedy following Hana Uzaki as she constantly teases and "annoys" her university upperclassman, Shinichi Sakurai. While she acts like a playful nuisance, she has actually harbored deep feelings for Sakurai since their high school days together in the swim club—even going as far as enrolling in the exact same university just to follow him. Interestingly, she spent her entire first year at university simply observing him from afar without making contact.
