💡 EZ Light Selector – ComfyUI Workflow

Created by Me – a filmmaker & AI workflow designer. This tool lets you design cinematic lighting setups using simple dropdown menus, then generates images that match your exact lighting vision. Perfect for pre‑visualisation, mood boarding, or teaching lighting principles – all inside ComfyUI.

    ---

    ### 🧩 Overview

This workflow combines a lighting selector (with 8 categories of lighting parameters) with a Qwen‑Image 2512 text‑to‑image engine. You choose your lighting type, color, direction, quality, contrast, temperature, style, and genre – and the workflow builds a detailed prompt like "Key Light, white, from Front, Hard Light, Low‑Key, Natural, Industrial, Horror" – then generates a corresponding image. You can use 1, 2, or 3 lights in a single scene, making it incredibly versatile for any mood or atmosphere.

    ---

    ### 1️⃣ Required Models & Prerequisites

Make sure these files are placed in your ComfyUI models/ folders:

    | Folder | Required Files |

    |--------|----------------|

    | diffusion_models/ | qwen_image_2512_fp8_e4m3fn.safetensors (or your preferred Qwen‑Image version) |

    | loras/ | Qwen-Image-2512-Lightning-4steps-V1.0-fp32.safetensors (optional but recommended for speed) <br> Qwen-Image-Edit-2509-Relight.safetensors (recommended for lighting control) |

    | text_encoders/ | qwen_2.5_vl_7b_fp8_scaled.safetensors |

    | vae/ | qwen_image_vae.safetensors |

    > 💡 The workflow uses Qwen‑Image 2512 – if you don’t have it, you can replace it with any other text‑to‑image model (e.g., SDXL) by swapping the UNET/CLIP/VAE nodes. The selector outputs a pure text prompt.

    ### 3️⃣ How It Works (Select & Generate)

    1. Choose your lighting parameters from eight dropdown menus:

    - Light – Key, Fill, Backlight/Rim, Practical, Ambient, Motivated.

    - Color – White, Yellow, Orange, Red, Purple, Blue, Green.

    - Direction – Front, Right, Left, Back, Up, Down.

    - Quality – Hard, Soft, Diffused, Specular, Bounce, Volumetric.

    - Contrast – High‑Key (bright, minimal shadows), Low‑Key (dramatic shadows), Chiaroscuro (painterly).

    - Source Temperature – Natural, Artificial, Warm, Cool.

    - Industrial/Laboratory – None, Industrial (harsh, gritty), Laboratory (sterile, clinical).

    - Genre – None, Horror, Hero, Villain, Tension, Romance, Sadness, Sci‑Fi, Action, Dreamy/Fantasy.

    2. The workflow combines your selections into a natural‑language prompt like:

    > "white key light with maximum intensity... from Front side of the frame, hard undiffused light, low‑key lighting, natural sunlight, plus a fill light softly bouncing..."

    3. That prompt is fed into the Qwen‑Image 2512 engine (with optional Relight and Lightning LoRAs) to produce a corresponding cinematic image.

    4. You can use 1, 2, or 3 lights – the workflow chains them together, so you can build complex multi‑light setups.

    ---

    ### 6️⃣ Advanced Settings (Optional)

    - Number of Lights – You can use 1, 2, or 3 lights. Simply connect the output of the 1st or 2nd selector to the generator if you don't need all three.

    - Custom Base Prompt – you can add a subject and scene description before the lighting parameters (e.g., “A close‑up view of a man's head facing camera, with a black background dark room.”).

    - Resolution – set custom width/height (default 512×512).

    - Seed – fix the seed for reproducible results.

    - LoRA Strength – adjust the Lightning and Relight LoRAs for speed and lighting control.

    - Reusable Selector – the Light Selector subgraphs output pure string prompts, so you can connect them to any other image/video generation engine – they're not locked to Qwen.

    ---

    ### 📦 Final Output

    After running, you’ll get:

    - A high‑quality image saved in your output folder with a prefix like Light_ and your lighting parameters in the filename.

    - The generated image is also displayed inside ComfyUI (via the built‑in preview) for quick inspection.

Why I built this: As a VFX supervisor, lighting is everything – it defines mood, genre, and emotion. This selector lets me experiment with complex lighting setups in seconds, without touching a physical light kit. It’s also a fantastic teaching tool for students learning cinematography and lighting theory. I hope it helps you pre‑visualise your scenes with the perfect mood – feel free to adapt it to your own engine! 🎥💡
