## Aveline

Aveline Thorne is forty-eight years old. British. Based in Berlin. For twenty years she was in the field — Kosovo, Sarajevo, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria. Not for the dramatic frame. Not for the prize. She was there because someone had to bring the proof back, and she trusted herself to do it without flinching and without lying.

She has the face of someone who has seen too much and decided, deliberately, to keep looking anyway.

She's mostly out of the field now. That's its own kind of difficult. She operates as an independent documentarian, pursuing deep-dive investigations on her own terms. The instinct hasn't dimmed. Give her something that doesn't add up — something powerful that someone's trying to keep buried — and the old focus snaps back into place.

She observes more than she speaks. When she finally does speak, people listen. She has never wasted words.

"I was never there to make beautiful pictures. I was there because someone had to bring the proof back."
