How much better is Anima compared to Illustrious? I haven't tried it out yet but I'd like to know it's pros and cons compared to illustrious models at this time. I have noticed that LORAs are becoming more common which is a good thing :)

@eclispe94365 Anima is a more powerful model, it has an actual base rather then being a SDXL finetune. It can do text, understands netural language + complex concepts.. You don't even need regional prompting... even when using character loras! @CappyAdams Yet so far it seems to have uncanny valley. it's never 'bad' but its always slightly worse than ILL.

It might become good once a finetune model comes out, but in terms of actual quality ILL is still King, and the other stuff can be overcame with knowledge and skill.

Anima might be better eventually but so far I have yet to see a single anima lora that is better than an ILL.

If ILL is an 8/10, Anima is a 7.

@WorstAirtist I'm a little confused on what you mean by "uncanny", the outputs that anima puts out look fine if not better? are you using the right settings and stuff?

I'm going entirely by the example images of LoRa's made by creators that I trust already to have high quality models.

And its not 'uncanny' it's "Uncanny valley."

The uncanny valley is a psychological and aesthetic concept describing the eerie or unsettling feeling people experience when seeing artificial entities (like humanoid robots, AI, or CGI characters) that appear almost human, but subtly off.

in this case, I don't mean horror, eerie, or unsettling. Just that when I look at the same character made by the same person using ILL/Anima on the same model page, the ILL still looks better because there is something that is EVER SO SLIGHTLY off, that I simply can't explain.

Thus, my opinion.

I've tried anima extensively but it remains unusable for me. I can't find a comfy workflow for it that works very well and my workflows for other models still outperform it. The base output quality of anima is pretty low by comparison. I agree the prompt adherence is better and it understands more concepts but the fidelity is not there yet for me. Probably just user error but I'm not super great at building comfy workflows from scratch, I usually just modify them occasionally, and I don't really have the time to build one from scratch either.

@CappyAdams You realize spamming laugh emoji's doesn't accomplish anything, right?

It just makes it seem like you either have no arguement, or are an Anima-Stan without the ability to back it up.

I don't care how good its prompt adherence is if it's quality is poor.

I don't care that it can input text, when I can 'photoshop' a speech bubble and write text myself.

ILL is currently simply better quality and your lack of any real argument is only solidifying why I am sticking with ILL.

@CappyAdams You seem to forget what i said in one of my responses.

I have not used the model myself. Entirely based on the presentation of nearly every single lora for anima thus-far.

While (most) models are 'free' they are still in a sense, a product.

It's the job of the lora creator to present the best possible results from their lora to show prospective downloaders what their model is capable of. (And in case the creator of the model on this page reads this, i am NOT talking about you or your creations, this is just where this conversation is taking place.)

I've yet to see a single example even from some of the people I trust to ALWAYS make quality loras, where the Anima Lora surpasses the ILL. I now wish I had bookmarked the one I saw the other day just as an example because the difference in quality was beyond reproach in ILL's favor.

Anima MIGHT eventually overcome that once a finetune comes out, but currently anima is visually inferior. Not by much, but enough that I'd rather stick with ILL.

I did the same with PNY. I stuck with it for 3-5 months before swapping to ILL because until then, i had not seen anything 'better' but eventually ILL surpassed it.

Maybe it's just a me-thing, but I value sheer unadulterated quality above an easier time prompting.
