Metropolis, (1927, directed by Fritz Lang) came into public domain this year.
I’ve loved this movie since I saw it the first time, at some goth industrial club in the late 90’s in Hollywood, the stark-but-somehow-soft brutal retro sci-fi on the screen going perfectly with the music.
Later I watched it for a class, and we pulled apart the meaning of the shape language and symbols and metaphor, and it was very satisfying.
I highly recommend checking it out, in either the giant-stompy-boots or cinematographic-dissection manners.
Let me know if you want a 2.x version, I can do that. 😀
Description
V1 has the film style down, and much of the shape and tone, but doesn’t quite match the compositions or the mechanical brutalism of the film, but we’re getting there.

I love retro stuff. Maybe the old Buck Rogers/Flash Gordon serials next?
It looks great! Thanks in advance!
Many thanks for such a lovely effort. A version 2.X would be great, and especially happy I would be about a hypernetwork with the same content (how many pictures did you use?).
Haven't made too many hypernernetworks, not sure what my learning rate should be for those. Image set was 18, down from the original 64 I pulled. Will train a 2.x version (should go good with illumination)
Love it! Will test it out but from what I can see it's a clear five star candidate! Thanks for doing these aesthetics!
Oh!! Thanx for this!! It would be supernice to have other old movies styles
any in particular?
@mousewrites Melies style, Ladislaw Starewickz style, Murnau style, Dr Caligari style, Svankmajer style...
Yes plz for version 2.1 768, !!!! or full frame size, however, note subjects / tagging challenges, entire screen vs. specific subjects, Maria vs. any frame she is in, Evil-Robot_Maria, etc. If you have not yet listened to the version with Rock Music, you really should :)
A classic of classics, and a nice add on. I watched the movie once. My favorite part is an unintentionally funny scene where, after the main character sees the robot for the first time, 'The noble hero feints from delirium'.
