I'm excited (and nervous) to share my very first published LoRA with you all. It's also my first dive into the world of SDXL LoRAs. I'm all ears for your thoughts and suggestions – your feedback is like gold to me, so don't hold back!
So, what's this LoRA all about? Picture this: a 'fresh' tarmac texture with a touch of still-drying tar. It's all about playing with contrasts – gritty meets smooth and shiny.
It should work with the trigger 'ais-tarmac'. You might find that phrases like 'made of ais-tarmac' or 'made from ais-tarmac' work even better. Experiment and see what works for you.
Different colours should work too... Most of my training captions included 'black ais-tarmac', but I'm curious to see how other colours play out.
I've found that a strength of 1 works alright, but hey, art has no rules! Feel free to dial it up or down and share your discoveries.
The nitty-gritty: I trained this LoRA with 150 high-quality 1024 x 1024 images, each carefully captioned. While the focus was on a specific subject against simple or gradient backgrounds, there are a few with more intricate backdrops. Want something more visually captivating? Try adding 'simple background' or 'gradient background' to your negative prompts.
I'd be over the moon if you could download this LoRA and give it a go. Seeing your creations would make my day!
Lastly, I'm here to learn and grow. Any tips on how to make this LoRA more useful and enjoyable for you (and me!) would be awesome.
Looking forward to your creations and feedback!

Congrats on your first LORA, it's a journey isn't it ? I'll have a play with it later.
Thank you! It's been fun playing. I've used Kohya locally and played with 1.5 LoRAs to mixed success. My 8gb of VRAM doesn't stretch to SDXL so it was good to try the Civitai training. It's an addictive process!!
@Dever I added this LoRa to my last prompt. Good LoRa. Black slime looks even more disgusting 😂
Great first LoRA! Well done 😎👍
Thank you! In all honesty, your amazing LoRAs inspired me to give it a go with my own. Yours have provided me hours of entertainment and inspiration - so thank you!
Nice to see your first LoRA. Fantastic!
Thank you to people like you that inspired me to give it a go!
I don't get it, how does a relatively fresh account get so much following and #8 rank in so little time, and their first lora gets comments and features to the main page.
I've been here longer with more loras and I don't get any of that. How do I jump-start an account?
Hey, thanks for the comment. Not sure the answer to your question. I've not been here long, but I've spent way too much time on here in that short time! I've got something of an obsessive personality. I've also tried to support those whose hard work I've enjoyed - and there are many of those people here.
As for the #8 rank - I've spent a load of time each day for the last couple of months trying to make the very best images using a range of different models on here. I don't post anything I'm not proud of or anything that doesn't make me smile. I guess that some of those images have resonated with people, hence the responses - and therefore the rank. I don't think there's any magic to it.
@artificialstupidity is it just the time spent actively that boosts views? I just don't know how the algorithm works here. I made sure to post a picture every day and follow a person daily as well as putting likes at 5-10 images every day during the christmas month in order to collect buzz so that should count as activity. Do I have to comment everywhere too?
I mean it's easy to just say to anyone asking my question "just get good", but what good is putting effort into content no one will see in the first place? Hence the "jump-start" mentioned.
@seedmanc I don't know to be honest. I don't think there's magic to it. I also don't think there's an algorithm at play in the same way as Youtube etc. As far as I know, the featured models and images are chosen rather than selected by an algorithm. I've looked at your images and you've got a good range and all the images you post get responses.
I think throughout December I posted about 15-25 images each day, with no repetition in focus each day. There'd only be one image in a day that featured an apple for instance. I'd aim for every image to be at least one of: funny, thought-provoking and/or visually stunning. Obviously, whether they are any of these is subjective, but if it didn't fall under one of these I didn't post it.
Some images I post get totally ignored and that's because presumably no one else finds them funny, thought-provoking and/or visually stunning. That's cool. But by posting a wide range of images each day, with carefully thought out prompts (and certainly not complicated prompts) and that have been carefully selected, has meant that they were more likely to appeal to people.
Other than that I rate and review as many resources as I can. I give buzz where I can. I comment where I feel I have something to say and react to as many images as I can.
None of that is magic, but is all I've done!
This is a great model brother.
Thanks very much!
