Pip Gofern, better known as Pip the Troll, is a supporting character in Marvel Comics, primarily associated with cosmic storylines involving Adam Warlock and Thanos. He first appeared in Strange Tales #179 (February 1975), created by writer and artist Jim Starlin. Originally a prince of the planet Laxidazia, Gofern indulged in debauchery and consumed mutagenic ale brewed by the planet's troll sub-species, resulting in his permanent transformation into a squat, hoofed, troll-like form with enhanced physical traits and a heightened appetite for pleasure. This mutation led to his exile from royal society, prompting a life of interstellar wandering, petty crime, and heavy drinking. His innate abilities include superhuman strength, durability, a high tolerance for intoxicants, and, following prolonged exposure to the Space Gem, the power of interstellar teleportation.

Pip's early adventures centered on his alliance with Adam Warlock, beginning when both were captives aboard a starship of the Universal Church of Truth. He assisted Warlock in a mutiny and subsequent battles against the Church and its leader, the Magus—an evil future version of Warlock. Pip provided comic relief and tactical support during these conflicts, forming lasting bonds with Warlock and Gamora. His original body was later destroyed by Thanos, who obliterated his mind, but Warlock preserved his soul within the Soul Gem. Pip was resurrected in a new form during the events of Infinity Gauntlet (1991), enabling his participation in the cosmic struggle against Thanos's omnipotence.

In the aftermath, Pip became a founding member of the Infinity Watch, tasked with safeguarding the Space Gem, which amplified his teleportation abilities and allowed him to establish a base on Monster Island. He featured prominently in crossovers such as Infinity War, Infinity Crusade, and Infinity Abyss, often displaying resourcefulness amid larger threats. Subsequent developments included temporary omnipotence, alliances with unlikely figures like Thanos, infiltration of X-Factor Investigations under duress from Hela, and various revivals following apparent deaths. Throughout his history, Pip has remained a mischievous, loyal companion in Marvel's cosmic narratives, embodying themes of redemption and irreverent camaraderie.
