This is an Illustrious lora for Saint Valentine. Saint Valentine is a saint who was martyred on February 14th, 273, for repeatedly evangelizing the local Roman pagans. He was arrested right after directly evangelizing emperor Claudius II himself to his face after visiting the imperial palace of Rome.
Besides evangelizing, Saint Valentine also performed christian marriages that were illegal at the time, and also did marriages for Roman soldiers that escaped service. To remind the married couples of their vows and God's love Saint Nicholas would cut heart shapes out of parchment to hand to the couples. It is the heart shape that he cut out that is the origin of the standard heart shape we still use to this day.
While in jail awaiting execution he fell in love with a women that just happened to be the daughter of judge Asterius running the jail he was being kept in. When the judge found out he had Saint Valentine's eyes and tongue removed as punishment. Even after all that Saint Valentine continued to write love letters to the man's daughter just as before, ending the letters with the phrase 'From your Valentine' which inspired the phrase and use of Valentine's letters and later cards associated with the Saint Valentine's Day holiday and feast day.
Relics of Saint Valentine can be found at a number of churches around Europe in places like Madrid, Dublin, Lesbos, Poland, Slovakia, Prague, and other places. One of the more prominent relics is that is the flower crowned skull of Saint Valentine in the Basilica of Santa Maria in Cosmedin, Rome.
