Surge the Tenrec from the comic book series Sonic the Hedgehog by IDW Publishing (2018), a modern Sonic comic continuity following Sonic and his allies after the events of the games, she is a genetically and cybernetically altered tenrec created by Dr. Starline as an anti-Sonic figure alongside her partner Kitsunami. She first appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog: Imposter Syndrome miniseries, where Starline conditions her to hate Sonic, Eggman, and the world around them. Surge is depicted as a green, punk-styled tenrec with electric powers, sharp teeth, and a violent attitude shaped by Starline’s experiments. In the story she becomes one of Sonic’s most direct rivals, fighting with speed and electricity while struggling with the fact that her identity was engineered by someone else.
