I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as “Big Ben”, is in fact, the Great Clock of Westminster, or as the government has recently taken to calling it, Elizabeth Tower. Big Ben is not a clock tower unto itself, but rather another historical component of a fully functioning clock tower made useful by the architecture, clockwork, and prominent location comprising a full timekeeping landmark.

Many Londoners see the tower every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the tower which is widely recognized today is often called "Big Ben", and many of its viewers are not aware that it is the tower, developed by Barry and Pugin.

There really is a Big Ben, and these people are hearing it, but it is just a part of the system. Big Ben is the bell: the lump of metal that makes noise when struck. The bell is an essential part of a bell tower, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete tower. Big Ben is normally used in combination with the Great Clock: the whole system is basically the Great Clock triggering Big Ben at fixed times, or Big Ben within the tower. Most of the so-called "Big Ben" pictures are really pictures of the Great Clock of Westminster that houses Big Ben.

You are absolutely right. I wanted to "iconize" the English complex of Big Ben. Thanks for your clarification. I hope you like the result too.

@zerokool I really just wanted to rewrite the GNU/Linux copypasta as a joke, though the details within are accurate
