In Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, Death (a.k.a. The Grim Reaper) is played by William Sadler, an actor known for his roles in The Shawshank Redemption, Die Hard 2, and The Green Mile. Unlike traditional depictions of Death, this version of the Grim Reaper is hilariously insecure, overly dramatic, and secretly competitive.
Initially, he serves as an antagonist, sent to claim Bill & Ted’s souls after they are killed. However, when the duo challenges him to a game for their lives, he loses repeatedly—first in Battleship, then in Clue, Electric Football, and Twister—leading to one of the funniest running gags in the film.
Eventually, Death begrudgingly joins Bill & Ted on their journey, becoming a loyal (if eccentric) ally, complete with a thick fake Eastern European accent, overly theatrical monologues, and an obvious need for validation.
