I don't wanna nitpick, but technically for an mexican standoff you require at least 3 parties. A "2 person standoff" with only two parties is easily resolved by one shooting the other before they get shot.
The theatralic point of an mexican standoff is, that there are at least 3 parties, where shooting your opponent is not an option, because the 3rd person would shoot you, causing a situation where the 3(+) parties have to negotiate at how to resolve the situation w/o dying.
