I grew up reading The Far Side comics and cherished every collection that was published. I was deeply saddened when the final comic strip came out over two decades ago. For years, I hadn’t thought much about it, but recently, something inspired me to dig out my old collections and relive those wonderfully absurd moments. That nostalgic journey sparked an idea—and that idea led to the creation of this LoRA.
This LoRA is my way of paying homage to the great and immensely talented Gary Larson, but it is not intended to reproduce his work. From what I understand, The Far Side holds a deeply personal significance for Mr. Larson, one that’s hard to put into words. With that in mind, this LoRA captures a "Far Side-ish" style rather than attempting to replicate the exact essence of the original comics. I purposefully avoided an exact imitation out of respect for Mr. Larson and his iconic work. This LoRA also wasn’t trained on any original captions, so you’ll need to come up with your own punchlines. Still, I'm sharing it in the hope it brings joy to fans of The Far Side and evokes a little of that nostalgic magic.
Usage
Use the LoRA at full strength (1.0) and trigger it with the phrase "a difrsd comic about" and then describe the image. If you aren't getting the look you are after, a higher strength (tested up to 1.4) will refine the style, while lower strengths (0.6-0.8) will give a more generic comic appearance. See the example below:
License and Permissions
In addition to the terms set in the Flux.1 [dev] Non-Commerical License, this LoRA is unavailable for on-site generation through any platform or service, and images created using this LoRA cannot be sold or used commercially. This LoRA should not be merged or mixed, nor should its output be used to train other models. This LoRA and its output are intended only for personal use.

Well done, love it!
Darn- looks so cool. I'm just waiting for the same to be done with classic Mad Magazine artists, but I guess no one cares about them these days!
now that's not a bad idea at all...
Think I've seen a Don Martin LoRA here somewhere … Might have been SDXL tho
I plan to work on this but there’s so much data to gather, so it’s a bit of a task at the moment but it’ll get done. I downloaded 4 decades of MAD magazines so pray for my sanity to be intact by the end of it.
@IvanSizeMax I published a Don Martin LoRA that just came out of Early Access period.
Shame for a Mort Drucker caricature LoRA that Flux doesn't recognize as many characters/celebs as SDXL does.
@WizardWhitebeard Yeah I was going for Mort Drucker since his work of caricatures of 80s and 90s movie celebs was so iconic. I'm thinking about doing it in Illustrious but yeah, the biggest challenge will be celebrities. Again, tons of pictures to comb through but it'll get done. Gonna focus on some theme park LoRAs first which in itself is monumental.

This looks very clean and defined. The aesthetic is captured well. I'd love to see this available for the onsite generator.
It did turn out better than I had hoped. Even though it is not a precise imitation and will limit who can play with this LoRA, I won't enable it for on-site generation. There's a downstream profit flow for onsite generation, and I do not want anyone to profit from this work, not even myself. I have the process for this type of LoRA creation down fairly well and would be willing to do something with similar aesthetics for on-site generation. Let me know if you have any ideas.
@Dark_infinity is the downstream profit flow from onsite because it is a lower barrier to entry than generating locally?
The essence is like a crisp, clean, nuanced cartoon style, with interaction between stooges with character, and good for dialogue or captions.
@monkeypuzzle on-site generation is a win-win for everyone involved. It allows convenience for some and a way to use the models for others (low barrier to entry, you mentioned). It is an exchange of a non-essential service for funds. By downstream profits, I mean that revenue flows to me, Civitai, the GPU service providers, Black Forest Labs, and so on. Profit may be a bit of a misnomer, as many are operating in the red. Nothing is bad about it; everyone is willing to participate, and the services are non-essential.
This is about the artist's work; in this case, I wanted this particular LoRA for purely personal use. Sure, there may be some ancillary revenue being generated by ads and such getting to this page, but turning off online generation is something I can do to limit any commercial use of the LoRA.
I'll add those qualities to my to-do list for another comic LoRA. I like doing those, and a more generic LoRA style-wise with good aesthetics may be a fun thing to create and make available.
@Dark_infinity I respect your effort to protect the artist.
@monkeypuzzle its not quite the same, but https://civitai.com/models/1134627/lichtenstein-pop-style just published.
@Dark_infinity thank you. Looks good. I will try it out.
