"The superman with the pearl bulge" by Vermeer, was sadly lost in WWII and is thought to have been accompanying the Amber Room aboard the same train on route to Himmler's private collection, along with that other lost classic, "The Finding of the Dropped Contact Lens" by Van Erghct (painted in 1380 during the Battle of Bruges). Art history records many such losses of great works.
