A pair of crimson lips. A confident glance over one shoulder. A single gold earring, an elegant silhouette, and a few carefully arranged geometric shapes.Nothing unnecessary. Nothing out of place.Just color, contrast, attitude, and an unmistakable sense of style. This LoRA was created to bring the iconic visual language of Patrick Nagel into Krea 2 Turbo.
About Patrick Nagel
Patrick Nagel (1945–1984) was an American illustrator and artist whose distinctive work became one of the defining visual styles of the late 1970s and early 1980s.His illustrations combined elements of Art Deco, Japanese woodblock prints, fashion illustration, and modern graphic design. He was particularly known for his stylized portraits of sophisticated women, often featuring striking black hair, pale skin, dramatic eyes, bold lips, and elegantly simplified forms.Nagel's artwork appeared in magazines, advertisements, and posters, and became internationally recognizable through his illustration for Duran Duran's Rio album cover. His approach was remarkably economical. A few carefully placed lines could suggest an entire expression. Large areas of flat color replaced complicated shading. The contrast between dark silhouettes and untouched white space gave his compositions a distinctive sense of elegance and mystery. His subjects often appeared confident, independent, and slightly distant — effortlessly glamorous without appearing overly elaborate.Decades later, his visual language remains instantly recognizable. This LoRA is intended as a respectful AI tribute to that artistic legacy. It is not affiliated with Patrick Nagel, his estate, or any official rights holders, and it is not intended to reproduce any particular existing artwork.
About This LoRA
This LoRA was trained on a carefully curated collection of illustrations, selected to capture the essential characteristics of Nagel's graphic style. The training focuses on:

Bold, clean, precisely defined contours

Large areas of flat, uninterrupted color

Strong contrast between dark and light shapes

Minimal shading and simplified facial features

Elegant, elongated figures and fashion poses

Sculpted hairstyles and expressive eyes

Striking silhouettes and carefully controlled negative space

Sophisticated, restrained color palettes

Geometric backgrounds with circles, diagonals, and abstract shapes

The refined atmosphere of 1980s fashion illustration and editorial design

The result is a graphic illustration style that works particularly well with fashion portraits, elegant women, dramatic close-ups, sophisticated poses, and vintage-inspired poster compositions.Although the original training material predominantly features women, the LoRA can also produce convincing male portraits and subjects with different skin tones. For these less typical subjects, a slightly lower LoRA strength often provides better prompt adherence while preserving the characteristic graphic appearance.
How to Use It
This LoRA was created for Krea 2 Turbo. It works best with natural English prompts that describe the subject, pose, clothing, colors, and overall composition.
Recommended LoRA Strength
0.6–0.7This is the recommended starting range based on actual testing.

0.5–0.6: Greater freedom for different faces, skin tones, hairstyles, and unusual subjects.

0.65–0.75: The recommended balance between recognizable Nagel styling and prompt adherence.

0.8–0.9: Stronger stylization, with more influence from the training images.

1.0: Very pronounced styling, but may overpower requested facial features, skin tones, or other details.

During testing, higher strengths occasionally caused darker skin tones to become much lighter or pushed otherwise different subjects toward the familiar appearance of the training portraits. At 0.6–0.7, the LoRA generally maintained the distinctive graphic style while allowing the underlying model more freedom. For most images, I recommend starting at 0.7 and adjusting from there.
Trigger Word
The training trigger is:
nagelstyle
Place it at the beginning of your prompt:
nagelstyle, an elegant portrait of a woman...
Unlike some style LoRAs that respond strongly to their weights alone, this LoRA has been developed and tested primarily with the trigger included.I recommend keeping
nagelstyle
at the beginning of your prompts for consistent results.
Prompting Tips
Krea 2 Turbo responds particularly well to descriptive prompts that establish a clear visual composition.Very short prompts such as:
nagelstyle, woman
may not always communicate enough information to produce the intended graphic illustration.Better results are generally achieved by describing the subject, visual details, and composition more explicitly.A useful structure is:nagelstyle, [subject and appearance], [pose and clothing], [background and colors], [graphic treatment and composition]For example:
nagelstyle, an elegant woman with pale ivory skin, voluminous black hair and crimson lips, looking over her bare shoulder, wearing long geometric gold earrings, surrounded by overlapping circles and angular shapes in muted rose, slate blue and cream, clean contours, flat color planes, minimal shading, sophisticated 1980s editorial illustration.
This approach helps Krea 2 construct the overall composition while the LoRA contributes its trained artistic language.
Colors and Contrast
Nagel's visual style relies heavily on the relationship between large color areas.Useful combinations include:

Ivory, black, muted rose, and slate blue

Cream, burgundy, charcoal, and lavender

Deep navy, pale yellow, magenta, and black

Dusty pink, warm gray, and muted violet

Cobalt blue, white, red, and black

These are suggestions, not restrictions. Experimenting with alternative colors can produce interesting results while preserving the overall style.
Background Composition
A good background can make a significant difference.Try descriptions such as:

Large overlapping circles

Abstract geometric color fields

Sweeping diagonal shapes

Asymmetrical graphic composition

A single large circle behind the subject

Minimal cream background with a few angular accents

Generous negative space around the portrait

The best compositions often use surprisingly few elements.
Portraits and Facial Expressions
The LoRA responds particularly well to confident, composed expressions.Useful descriptions include:

Looking back over her shoulder

Calm, distant expression

Slightly lowered eyelids

Direct, confident gaze

Elegant three-quarter portrait

Refined side profile

Dramatic close-up

Sophisticated fashion pose

For greater variety, explicitly describe different facial structures, ages, skin tones, hairstyles, and accessories.
Beyond Female Portraits
Although the training material predominantly features women, the visual style can extend beyond the classic dark-haired female portrait.Male portraits, different skin tones, unusual fashion, and alternative character designs are worth exploring. For these subjects, start around strength 0.6–0.7.The model may otherwise favor the recurring appearance of the original training illustrations.
Example Prompts

Classic Nagel Portrait

nagelstyle, a striking elegant portrait of a glamorous woman with pale ivory skin, voluminous jet-black hair, smoky blue eyeshadow and deep crimson lips. Her expression is cool and composed, with sharply defined eyes and elegant eyebrows. Clean lines, flat colors, restrained details and minimal shading.

Vintage Fashion Cover

nagelstyle, a striking elegant portrait of a glamorous woman with pale ivory skin, voluminous jet-black hair, smoky blue eyeshadow and deep crimson lips. Her bare shoulders are turned away from the viewer while she looks back with a cool confident expression. She wears long geometric gold earrings. Her figure dominates the left side of the composition, with large overlapping circles, angular shapes and sweeping curves in muted rose, slate blue, cream and black forming an abstract background. On the right, elegant thin Art Deco typography displays the exact title: "THE ART OF COOL". Clean contours, flat color planes, dramatic contrast, minimal shading, generous negative space and a refined 1980s graphic art cover composition.

Creating Posters and Covers
The LoRA works particularly well for retro fashion posters, magazine-inspired illustrations, music covers, and other editorial compositions. For a convincing result, describe the layout as well as the subject. For example:
nagelstyle, sophisticated 1980s fashion magazine cover featuring an elegant dark-haired woman in a black evening dress, looking over her shoulder, abstract overlapping circles and geometric shapes in muted pink, cream and blue-gray, generous negative space on the right for elegant Art Deco typography, flat colors, clean contours, minimal shading, refined editorial composition.
If you want specific text in the image, place it inside quotation marks and clearly specify where it should appear.Krea 2 Turbo can produce attractive poster typography, although exact wording and lettering are not always reliable. Some generations may omit words or introduce small typographic errors. For publication-quality covers, adding the final typography afterward in a graphic editor remains the most reliable approach. Also remember to set the desired aspect ratio in your generation workflow. Describing a landscape poster in the prompt does not necessarily override portrait-oriented image dimensions.
Final Notes
The appeal of Patrick Nagel's artwork lies in its extraordinary restraint.Where many illustration styles depend on texture, detail, and complexity, Nagel achieved something memorable with just a few carefully chosen lines, shapes, and colors. This LoRA aims to capture that same sense of visual economy. It is especially effective when the subject has a clear silhouette, an expressive pose, and a thoughtfully composed background.Experiment with different faces, hairstyles, fashion eras, color palettes, and compositions. Not every image needs black hair, white skin, or crimson lips to feel like Nagel-inspired graphic art.Sometimes all it takes is a confident glance, a single elegant line, and the right amount of empty space.Less detail. More attitude. The art of cool.
