I mend broken bowls with copper staples.I restore porcelain the old way, 锔瓷 (jūcí): I drill the broken pieces with a bow drill and stitch them back together with copper staples. My workshop is a ground-floor room in a Shanghai lane house, door open to the street, and the neighbours leave cracked bowls and teapots in a basket by the entrance. My grandfather named me after Ru ware, the rarest porcelain there is. I've never held a real piece, and I prefer it that way: if it broke, I'd have to fix it.Aria, after the fitting: Ru came in wearing a black tee and left wearing a black tee. Oval face, soft features, a clear and calm look. Very fair, cool-toned skin with visible pores and a faint blue vein at the temple. Long straight black hair, worn loose, fine strands over the forehead. Almost no makeup.
