Civitai Grabber + Bridge: a tool for model “collectors”

Many of us download models from Civitai by the hundreds. Not because we need them all right away, but “just in case.” The result is a large collection that is inconvenient to keep entirely on a fast SSD in the working models folder: space is limited, and constantly cleaning and moving files gets tiresome.

A common solution is a separate library on a large but slower drive. When a model is actually needed, it is simply copied (or linked) into the working folder. The problem is that a regular download via the “Download” button leaves you with just the model file. What you really want is:

    • a dedicated folder with a clear model name,

    • example images (and videos),

    • a text description plus generation metadata for the examples.

This is exactly the scenario Civitai Grabber was made for.

    What Grabber does

The program takes a model link and:

    1. Creates a folder named after the model page title (characters incompatible with the file system are automatically replaced).

    2. Downloads the model file into it.

    3. Downloads the examples (images and, optionally, videos).

    4. Creates a text file with the model description from the Civitai page and adds generation metadata for the examples when available.

The result is a neat folder ready for your archive library.

    Why you need the Bridge

Grabber itself can work with model links. However, when you need images specifically from a model’s gallery, a limitation appears: many image pages on Civitai are only served to an authenticated browser. The script cannot read them on its own.

This is where the Bridge comes in — a small extension for Firefox (available in the official store) and Chromium/Edge. It solves two tasks:

    1. Reads pages using your login and passes the data to the program.

    2. Lets you conveniently send links to the download list directly from the browser.

Two main ways to add a link:

    • Click the extension icon on the toolbar and send the address of the current page.

    • Right-click a model thumbnail in the general list or an image from a gallery → “Add link to Civitai Grabber list”.

Important detail: if a model link is placed first in the list, followed by links to images from its gallery, the images are automatically saved into that model’s folder. If you want to download individual images into arbitrary folders, simply do not put a model link before them. In addition, the current save path is locked as the common destination for the entire download list after you press “Start”.

    Useful details

    • You can set a prefix for the model name (for example, k2-style-). This is convenient when you want to quickly sort models in ComfyUI by base model and category without relying only on nested folders.

    • If a LoRA has a long alphanumeric code instead of a normal name (common after training on Civitai), Grabber can replace it with the readable model title.

    • The program does not attempt to download unavailable (including paid) models and notifies you about them.

    • There are a number of “under the hood” conveniences: WebP → JPEG conversion, name collision handling, a prompt to choose a specific model variant when several are available on the page (multiple variants can be selected), and more.

    Requirements

    • Windows 10/11

    • Regular system Python with Tkinter (the Python that comes with ComfyUI will not work)

    • A Civitai API key (created for free in account settings) or Sign-in authorization (If both methods are available, Sign-in takes priority).

Grabber is currently a Python script with a graphical interface. It does not collect or send any user data anywhere; sensitive information is hidden in the log.

The Firefox Bridge can be installed directly from the add-ons store. A Chromium/Edge version is also available.

    In short

If you prefer to keep a large model library separate from your ComfyUI working folder and want ready-made folders with examples and descriptions instead of just model files, Grabber + Bridge make the process noticeably easier — especially once the collection grows large.

The project is open-source and continues to improve. Installation instructions and the latest versions are available on GitHub https://github.com/Overbooster/civitai-grabber and in the Firefox add-ons store: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/civitai-grabber-bridge/.
