Pee-wee Herman is a fictional character created and performed by comedian and actor Paul Reubens (1952-2023). Pee-wee began as a character in the L.A. comedy troupe The Groundlings in 1977, and he took off soon after: an HBO special in 1981, the movie Pee-wee's Big Adventure in 1985, the children's series "Pee-wee's Playhouse" for five years, and another film, Big Top Pee-Wee, in 1988.

This one came out a little odd, though I'm happy with it. It wants to make Pee-wee into a late 1940s/early 1950s TV star, maybe on the DuMont Network. Edward R. Murrow's deputy editor. The company man keeping a secret on the LIRR. More The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit than the wild child of 1980s Saturday morning television. He's even a little hunky at times. Anyway, R.I.P. Paul Reubens.
